Undergraduate Program Objectives
- Integrate and apply knowledge from the liberal arts and natural and social sciences with disciplinary nursing knowledge as the foundation of professional nursing practice.
- Deliver comprehensive, compassionate, holistic, and personalized care that is respectful of each individual鈥檚 unique needs, in a variety of settings through application of the nursing process.
- Manage population health through collaborative partnerships that focus on prevention, health promotion, disease management and advocacy with the goal of optimizing health and improving health equity.
- Critically appraise and integrate best evidence into clinical decision-making and the delivery of safe, effective systems-based healthcare while ensuring ethical research practices with the goal of improving health outcomes and reducing systemic and health inequities.
- Provide safe, quality nursing care using quality improvement principles and established safety guidelines to measure and evaluate patient outcomes and actively contribute to a culture of workplace and patient safety.
- Using the principles and values of team dynamics, collaborate across professions with healthcare team members, patients, and inter-professional partners to foster shared decision-making and accountability and optimize care, and enhance health outcomes.
- Utilize knowledge of systems-based practice to assess and evaluate healthcare systems, with the goal of optimizing resource coordination, addressing gaps and service delivery failures, enhancing cost-effectiveness, improving health outcomes, and reducing health inequities and disparities.
- Utilize information and communication technologies to improve patient outcomes through the delivery of safe, effective, high-quality nursing care.
- Cultivate a professional nursing identity that embodies the core nursing values of integrity, compassion, inclusivity, advocacy, caring, accountability, human dignity and social justice consistently demonstrated through the provision of ethical professional nursing practice.
- Participate in life-long learning and self-reflection activities that foster resilience, personal health and well-being, and professional development and support the acquisition of nursing expertise and leadership.
