Meier Hall Addition
The contractor is taking a proactive approach to excavate the foundation, utilities and new elevator shaft in the most efficient way possible to minimize the discovery of additional rock once the equipment has been demobilized. While this process is disruptive, their approach to expose and remove rock now will greatly decrease the potential of having to hammer again later on in the project. Some of these excavated areas need to be filled in at the end of each day in order to maintain the emergency egress for Meier Hall and to avoid having large open excavations, which create other safety concerns. Foundation excavation will continue intermittently through October. Concrete and steel work are anticipated to begin in mid-October. The goal is to have the foundation completed to allow for steel erection and concrete slabs placements to begin as soon as the weather breaks next spring. Learn more about the Meier Hall addition.
Decarbonization Project Update
Mobilization for phase one of the geothermal drilling project has begun. Fencing was installed to close off the lower section of the College Drive parking lot (near Peabody Hall). Faculty and staff can still park in the upper section of this lot and in over 250 parking spaces reserved for them on the third and fourth floors of the North Campus Parking Garage. The contractor anticipates the drilling equipment to arrive in early November. Learn more about the decarbonization project.
