Online Bachelor of Social Work

Salem State’s fully online bachelor of social work (BSW) program, offered jointly through our School of Social Work and School of Continuing and Professional Studies, is built for working adults ready to complete their degree and advance their impact in the human services field. If you’ve earned an associate’s degree or completed general education requirements at a Massachusetts community college, this program offers a seamless path to your BSW.

Designed with flexibility in mind, this program supports students who are balancing work, family and other responsibilities while pursuing their goals. Whether you’re already working in human services or ready to take the next step, you’ll find a supportive, career-focused community here.

Graduates are well-positioned to continue their education through Salem State’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program, available both online and in person. Qualified students could be eligible to complete the MSW in just one year through our advanced standing track.

100% online coursework, including Zoom-based synchronous classes and asynchronous online learning
Finish in as little as two years with transfer credits (minimum of 60 credits required)

As part of the program, students complete a 425-hour, in-person practicum during their senior year. Practicum placements are available across Massachusetts, often at a site near your home or even your current workplace. This experience prepares you to work directly with individuals, families, groups and organizations.

Massachusetts residency required
Minimum of 60 transferable college credits
GPA of 2.7 or higher from your most recently attended institution
